Medical Skin Needling

Medical skin needling offers great results for patients who suffer with the following skin problems:

  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores
  • Acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Surgical scars
  • Rough skin and a dull complexion

All treatments undertaken at ESS Clinic are performed by a doctor specialising in skin. A personalised treatment plan will be discussed with each patient ensuring that optimal results can be achieved.

  • Manual medical skin needling
  • This is a manual technique. It involves a Medik8 Titanium Dermaroller being rolled several times over the area to be treated. Each roller contains 192 titanium needles. The doctor performing your treatment will discuss with you the length of titanium needle that will be used. This is dependent on the area and the skin condition being treated and your skin type.

  • Electronic skin needling eDermastamp
  • This is an electronically powered device. It allows the doctor performing the treatment to provide a more intense, controlled and comfortable skin needling procedure. The doctor performing the treatment can adjust the needle depth and speed depending on the area being treated and the clinical condition of the skin.

  • What does a medical skin needling treatment involve?
  • Your consultation will involve a full assessment and detailed discussion with a qualified doctor specialising in skin and aesthetic treatments.  A full medical history will be taken, treatment options will be discussed and a further appointment can be booked for the treatment to be undertaken. For any treatment you decide to have, consent will be obtained ensuring that you have a full understanding of the procedure. Before and after photographs will be taken in order to measure results and record improvements.

Prior to the procedure, we will provide you with instructions on how to prepare your skin for the treatment. This will include applying local anaesthetic to the treatment area to ensure a virtually pain-free experience.

The procedure takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

After the procedure, your skin will be red and flushed for a few hours, in a similar way to moderate sunburn.  You will experience skin tightness and sensitivity to touch, which can last up to 48 hours. There is very little downtime, allowing you to return to work the next day. Verbal and written aftercare advice will be given to you following the treatment to ensure that optimal results are achieved.

  • When will I see the results of my treatment?
  • If can take up to six weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen. The effects of the treatment will continue to work over the following months, providing you with a natural and long-lasting enhancement.

  • The science behind medical skin needling:
  • The concept of skin needling is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage. Micro-needles penetrate the top layers of the skin and create pin-point injuries in the deeper layers.  This triggers the body’s natural wound healing response. As a result, new collagen and elastin is formed to reduce wrinkle depth, increase skin elasticity and improve the appearance of scars and other skin flaws.
