Acne scarring are marks left behind after an acne breakout.
There are various different types of scarring which can occur:
Atrophic scarring: as a result of loss of collagen which can be divided into 3 catergories:
Ice pick: These small, deep holes in the skin look like it was punctured by a sharp object.
Rolling: These wide, shallow scars are caused by bands of scar tissue that form under the skin, giving the surface an uneven appearance.
Boxcar: These round or oval depressions in the skin can look red or dark brown.
HypertrophicThese raised scars are firm and tend to be the same size as the original acne spot. They form when the body overproduces collagen during the healing process.
Keloid: These raised scars can grow larger than the original acne breakout and take time to appear.
After a full medical consultation at ESS Clinic we are able to tailor a treatment plan depending on the type of scarring that you have,
This could involve medical grade skin care products, the use of polynucleotides or surgical subcision of the scars, or a combination treatment may be needed to achieve the desired effect.
