Acne Scarring

Acne scarring are marks left behind after an acne breakout.

There are various different types of scarring which can occur:

Atrophic scarring: as a result of loss of collagen which can be divided into 3 catergories:

    • Ice pick: These small, deep holes in the skin look like it was punctured by a sharp object.
    • Rolling: These wide, shallow scars are caused by bands of scar tissue that form under the skin, giving the surface an uneven appearance.
    • Boxcar: These round or oval depressions in the skin can look red or dark brown.

    • HypertrophicThese raised scars are firm and tend to be the same size as the original acne spot. They form when the body overproduces collagen during the healing process.
  • Keloid: These raised scars can grow larger than the original acne breakout and take time to appear.

After a full medical consultation at ESS Clinic we are able to tailor a treatment plan depending on the type of scarring that you have,

This could involve medical grade skin care products, the use of polynucleotides or surgical subcision of the scars, or a combination treatment may be needed to achieve the desired effect.
